The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of a fair use image as a replaceable image. Please do not modify it.
The result was to delete the image. This original cover is in the public domain, and the use of this additional cover is unjustifiable under WP:NFCC. — ξxplicit00:06, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
Please see my notes on file page. I have permission to use this current book cover of the Autobiography of a Yogi on Wikipedia. I have the permission in email form and would be happy to forward this document onto someone at Wikipedia. Just let me know where to send it. Thank you. Red Rose 13 (talk) 02:26, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
Also, this cover is not replaceable because it is the current cover by the publisher. I was told by the expert editor, Yworo, that it was ok to have the 1st edition in the info box on the page and the current cover within the page but no more than that. Yworo said, "Two covers is pretty much as many as an article should have. The first edition and the latest or most popular edition." Red Rose 13 (talk) 18:47, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
If the publisher is willing to release the cover under a free license then you/they could follow the steps at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If they are only willing/able to give permission to use it on Wikipedia then it's subject to our policies regarding non-free content.
Now as non-free content, if the cover was significantly different than the first-edition cover then there would be a case for inclusion, but all I see is different color and framing. Is there something about the current cover which "would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding" that is not established by the first-edition?. That part of our non-free content policy is not the sole consideration, but a large one when determining which images can be used and how. VernoWhitney (talk) 01:21, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
Hello Verno, The Autobiography of a Yogi was first published in 1946. Self-Realization Fellowship was instructed by the author Paramahansa Yogananda to make revisions/edits to his book before he died in 1952, four years after the first edition. They were unable to complete this until the 1956 edition - The author also asked the publisher "to add — in the way of incidental footnotes, pictures, captions, etc. — whatever might be necessary in order to keep the book up to date" as the years go by. Also, in the mean time, it was determined that the first edition became public domain by Project Gutenberg. To clearly show that the first edition and the current edition are different, Self-Realization Fellowship dramatically changed the cover of the book. When the Wikipedia reader visually sees the two distinctly different covers, it will help show that the first edition and the current edition have differences. The first edition does not have all the revisions wanted by the author but the current one does plus it has been kept up to date. Red Rose 13 (talk) 03:10, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
