Proposed deletion
The image is very low resolution, although it is quite large. The reason is that it has been photographed from a small image on a printed sheet, the funeral service sheet of the subject of the picture. The grainy paper shows clearly in the image
I User:Amandajm took the photo from the service sheet with my camera.
The original photographer was an official photographer acting for the Government of Australia at the time that Margaret was on the Honours List. I do not know who it was. It has been reproduced on two different service sheets associated with the subject's funeral and her memorial service at the cathedral. On neither sheet was the author of the image acknowledged.
The original photograph is in the possession of Margaret Rodger's heir, her brother Alan Rodgers. I discussed with him the use of the image on this page.
I am also of the opinion that the purpose of the photograph itself was so that the subject might use it in biographical contexts.
Amandajm if you had made that all clear in the original declaration, I might not have wasted so much of my time challenging the legitimacy of the image's use. As it stands though, it doesn't support the use. Please clarify the reasons in the appropriate places so that those who come later understand too. Mary IV (talk) 21:11, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
Mary IV, most newbies don't spin up with COI templates and image deletion. While we appreciate your efforts, those are two areas that require a fair amount of experience to get right. So chalk this up to a learning experience and head on to your next project. I can recommend the WP:TEAHOUSE as a great place to ask questions, and Wikipedia:Contribution Team/Backlogs if you'd like to start attacking a to-do list (or two, or three....). Lesser Cartographies I may have only recently created a personal account of my own, but I have followed Wikipedia for years. When I came across evidence of a potential COI I chose to respond this way. I wasn't expecting the type of welcome I experienced though, so I do have a question for the teahouse. Mary IV, I filled in the information that was required in the boxes that were available. The date that was required was the date of publication, not the date of the photo, but that is unclear. Really Mary IV the person worse time is being wasted here is not yours. Some of us have better things to do than changing our user name, wiping our slate and finding a new victim. Your conduct doesn't instil confidence in your motives. Amandajm (talk) 16:42, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Amandajm you obviously din't provide enough information to make clear your case. The extra material you supplied above, after my prompting, should be put in the boxes too, for the sake of future reviewers. And I don't much care for the sentiments you expressed in you closing comments there. Mary IV (talk) 21:06, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
Mary IV, there was more than enough information given for someone versed in enWP's copyright policies to conclude that the image fell well within the fair use exception. Lesser Cartographies (talk) 05:32, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
