The newspaper was started in 1895 by Charles Harris as The Montpelier Examiner. The paper merged with the Bear Lake Valley News and became The News-Examiner on Sept. 16, 1937.

The paper was sold by Pioneer News Group Co. to Adams Publishing Group in 2017.
